Orot p.67 paragraph 15 – Ideal to Illuminate All 16/08/10

When the nation is in its full stature and vitality, i.e., in the Land of Israel with kingdom and Temple, then can and should encompass and deal with all aspects of life and uplift and infuse them with Divine content. When in exile, however, have to stay away from forces “outside” of Torah that threaten and distract from holiness; tactical retreat – if cannot influence at least make sure are not negatively influenced. Thus concepts of “nationalism” and “religion”, physical and spiritual, body and soul, become mutually exclusive. When nation returning to full grandeur, life forces returning and demanding their expression, fullness of Torah ideal has to be revealed, that Torah, the holy, comes not to diminish or weaken the physical; the national, rather enhance and add even greater meaning to them.
