What is the purpose of Sefirat Ha’Omer? How does Sefirat Ha’Omer connect the Holidays of Pesach and Shavuot? Rav Micha Hyman goes into the commentaries of the Sfat Emet (R’ Aryeh Leib from Chassidut Gur) exploring the special messages of this unique time frame.
One idea is that Pesach is living in an elevated state, and refraining from eating bread, and purifying ourselves through the subtraction of not eating chametz. After Pesach, we resume our routines and daily schedule, and leave the Holiness of Pesach. The Sfirat Ha’Omer serves as a continuum of the spiritual process we began on Pesach until we reach the pinnacle of our spiritual achievement on Shavuot – by receiving the Torah.
